Jerusalem at Passover

“Suppose you had signed up with a travel agent for a guided tour of Jerusalem during the week of Passover in the year A.D. 30… what might you have seen and heard?”

This week, we will break into small groups and read skits, led by a typical tour guide on an imaginary visit to the Holy City. The tour guide will offer historical, cultural and religious commentary on the sights of the city, just as a person might have done 2,000 years ago the week Jesus was arrested, tried and crucified. The “stops” are:

  • The Temple

  • Passover

  • The Mount Of Olives

  • The Palace of the High Priest

  • The Fortress Antonia

  • Skull Hill

Due to copyright, I can’t post the scripts on our website. Please email me directly and I will send you the files!

After-Skit Discussion

  • How is this skit different from the Bible story? How is it similar or the same?

  • How did your character interact with Jesus— positively, negatively, or somewhere in between?

  • Can you think of something you have in common with your character?

  • If you had to write the homily about this part of the story, what is THE most important message you’d want to share?

  • Share one thing you learned from the “Tour Guide,” or something you see in a different light now because of this skit.

Breakout Sessions

After reading a skit and sharing discussion, spend the remaining time with these activities:

  • Jerusalem Map & Rosary. Complete this map and pray the rosary with the Knights (begins at 10:30am)

  • Old Testament & Jesus. On this worksheet (p. 2), match the Old Testament scripture with an event in Jesus’s life that happened during Holy Week. If you’re interested in learning more about Old Testament connections to Christ, this link has 351 of them.

  • Seven Last Words of Jesus. Complete the worksheet (p. 2) and then reflect together using option 1, 2, or 3 (p. 1).
