K-5: Popular Piety

For this week, we will make rosaries! Pick up extra supplies at church, then download instructions for knotted and beaded rosaries here. If you prefer to learn by watching a video, here’s one I made:


Instead of reading an opening prayer together, we wrote our own by following the 5 types of prayer listed in the Catechism (write one sentence per category below):

  1. Blessing and Adoration: honoring God for who he is. God, you are…

  2. Petition: Give us this day our daily bread, especially… (physical and spiritual needs: help on a test, patience, love, etc.)

  3. Intercession: Prayers for other people. God, please bless….

  4. Thanksgiving: Thank you, God, for…

  5. Praise: celebrating God for what he’s done. God, thank you for…

  • Complete the booklet using the Catholic Prayers infographics posters (see below) as a reference.


Prayer Photos

Cut out your favorite frames from the prayer photos worksheet then take pictures and share your faith on social media.


PIETY BINGO:

Cut apart the 25 pictures from the popular Piety bingo sheet, then shuffle and glue them to a construction paper in any order. For a challenge, glue them definition-side-down.
