Classroom Session 6-12

MIDDLE SCHOOL (GRADES 6-8)

Read this PDF.

The apostles were Jesus’ first followers. They were not perfect and did not always do the right thing, but they were compelled by love to follow Jesus. Through them, we find an example of real people whose lives were changed by an encounter with Jesus. We can also see what their lives looked like as His followers.

Choose one apostle and one Scripture story from the list below. Look up the story in the Bible and then illustrate it on a piece of paper.

  • Peter and John Run to the Tomb of Jesus (John 20:3-4)

  • The Apostles Receive the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:1-4)

  • Peter’s Shadow Heals a Man (Acts 5:15-16)

  • John at the Foot of the Cross (Matthew 10:38)

  • The Apostles Eat Breakfast (John 12:10-14)

  • Peter, James, and John Witness the Transfiguration (Matthew 17:1-8)

DISCUSS OR JOURNAL:

  • If you could receive VIP seating for any concert, which concert would it be?

  • Why does it matter that Jesus is God and not just a “nice man who made a big difference in the world”?

  • Do you consider yourself a disciple (or follower of Jesus)? Why?

  • What difference does this make in your life?

EIGHTH-GRADE OPTIONAL ALTERNATE QUESTIONS:

  • What have you learned about God through Jesus?

  • Who is someone in your life that you consider as knowing Jesus personally? What about them lets you know that they know Jesus?

  • What would you say if Jesus were to ask you, “Who do you say that I am?”

Summarize here.
